Chosen as one of four projects from hundreds of entries in Women in Media’s CAMERAderie Initiative, “Moon” is set to premiere at the Micheaux Film Festival on July 12, 2023, at 4:25 pm, followed by the 22nd Anniversary DC Asian Pacific American Film Festival on July 15 at 4pm, Comic-Con International: San Diego on July 21, and the Valley Film Festival in early August.
As writer/director/producer of the short film “Moon,” a project which took ten years to complete, Toy Lei was inspired by “the idea of someone having a lunch picnic on the moon and enjoying the quiet of the moment, but I didn’t know how to finish it,” she said. Fast-forward to Covid, George Floyd reckoning, riots, and in a serendipitous moment, I realized it was an allegory for all the senseless death that had happened but how hope and love could bring us back from the brink…by way of The Little Prince.”
DC Asian Pacific American Film was established to be the beacon of creative output of Asian and Asian American media arts through community outreach, social media platforms, collaborative efforts with other Asian Pacific American organizations, and a film festival.
